CANADA’S TOP TEEN PHILANTHROPIST CONTEST RULES


GENERAL INFORMATION: Starting at 11:59 AM EST on Thursday, November 7th, 2013 entries for Canada’s Top Teen Philanthropist Contest can start being submitted. All entries must be received on or before 3:00 PM EST on Thursday, December 5th, 2013 (the “Contest Closing Date”).


ELIGIBILITY: The contest is open to citizens and permanent residents of Canada, between the ages of 13 and 19 as of December 5th, 2013, who have donated services, goods, money or time to support a registered charitable cause, for at least one year.


An entrant under the age of majority must have the consent of his/her parent or legal guardian to submit his/her personal information in order to enter the Contest. The parent or legal guardian must complete all the required fields on the relevant portion of the web entry form, including his/her name and contact information. If a parent or legal guardian does not provide consent, the entry will be disqualified.


The Contest is not open to employees and agents of Mackenzie Financial Corporation and StudentAwards. ("Mackenzie" and “StudentAwards”, also referred to as the "Sponsors"), advertising or promotional agencies, and members of their immediate family (spouse, father, mother, brothers, sisters, sons and daughters).


HOW TO ENTER: To be eligible to win, go to www.topteenphilanthropist.ca and tell us your story by filling out the online application. The potential winners may be requested to provide the sponsors with proof of age, Canadian citizenship or permanent resident status, and photo identification to claim that he or she is the individual associated with the winning entry. Maximum one entry submission per person.


The contestants will need to provide at least one example of the results or “impact” of their actions, ensure the fundraising or volunteering activity is associated with a registered charity and be able to provide the name and contact information of the registered charity to which they supported, for validation of these activities. The prizes will be awarded to the entrants selected by a panel of judges appointed by Mackenzie Investments and StudentAwards (“the Sponsors”).


PRIZE: There will be one grand prize of $5,000 cash awarded to the best winning entry, to go to the winner’s charity of choice, as well as a $2,500 cash prize to go to the best winning contestant. There will also be five “finalist” prizes for the top five runners-up of $500 to go the finalist’s charity of choice, as well as cash prizes of $500 each. All prize winners will be selected by a panel of seasoned philanthropists.


These prizes are not transferable and must be accepted as awarded.


COMPLIANCE WITH CONTEST RULES: In the event that any winner does not comply with the Contest rules, the winner’s entry may be eliminated from the contest and another winner chosen as per the methods described above.


ANNOUNCEMENT OF PRIZES: The grand prize winner and five finalists will be announced via a press release and online at www.topteenphilanthropist.ca, in February 2014.


CONSENT TO PUBLICITY: By entering this Contest, all entrants agree to the use of their names and addresses (city and province/territory), photographs or likeness which they will agree to allow to be taken of them in any promotional advertising without further remuneration. Entrants also agree to appear at a time and place requested by the Sponsors for promotional advertising without additional compensation.


DECLARATION AND RELEASE: By entering the Contest, each entrant (and/or his/her parent and/or legal guardian on the minor entrant’s behalf) (a) releases and holds harmless the Sponsors, the judges, and their respective directors, officers, employees and agents from any and all liability for injuries, loss or damage of any kind to persons including death, or property damage, resulting in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, from acceptance, possession, use or misuse or any prize, participation in this contest or participating in any prize-related activity; and (b) agrees to fully indemnify the Sponsors, the judges and their respective directors, officers, employees and agents from any and all claims by third parties without limitations. The selected entrants will be required to sign a declaration and release form (the “Form”) releasing and indemnifying the Sponsors and the judges as noted above. The Form must be correctly completed and returned within the time period specified on the Form or the prize may be forfeited. Prizes will be delivered either in person or registered mail within 30 days of receipt of the Form.


NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR ERRORS: The Sponsors are not responsible for any incorrect or inaccurate information, whether caused by website users or by any of the equipment or programming associated with or utilized in the contest or by any technical or human error which may occur in the processing of entries in the contest. The Sponsors assume no responsibility for any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission, communications line failure, theft or destruction or unauthorized access to, or alteration of, entries. The Sponsors are not responsible for any problems, failures or technical malfunction of any telephone network or lines, computer online systems, servers, providers, computer equipment, software, email, players or browsers, on account of technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet, at any website, or on account of any combination of the foregoing. The Sponsors are not responsible for any injury or damage to entrants or to any computer related to or resulting from participating or downloading materials in this Contest.


RIGHT TO MODIFY/TERMINATE CONTEST: If, for any reason, the Contest is not capable of running as planned, including but not limited to, infection by computer virus, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures, acts or omissions of any stock exchange, riots, wars or terrorism, strikes or other labour disputes, natural disasters or any other causes beyond the control of the Sponsors, which corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of this Contest, the Sponsors reserve the right, to terminate, modify or suspend the Contest without prior notice. In any of such circumstances, or any other similar circumstances, the prize may be awarded on a random draw basis only.


SUBJECT TO APPLICABLE LAW: Decisions of the Sponsors with respect to any aspect of the Contest are final. The Contest is subject to all applicable laws.


USE OF INFORMATION: The Sponsors protect your personal information and adheres to all legislative requirements with respect to protecting privacy. When entering this Contest, the Sponsors agree that personally identifying information that you provide may only be used to update you on the Contest, and will not be made available to third parties outside of the Sponsors without your explicit permission. Personal information provided by entrants is not otherwise being collected, held, used or disclosed by the Sponsors. The entry ballots become the permanent property of the Sponsors and shall not be returned.
